Plastic bags are one of the most widely used bags when it comes to carrying grocery items. However, these are one of the worst types of bags to use as these cause major harm to the environment. These bags get torn into small pieces over the course of time but do not get disposed of because they are non-biodegradable. They remain in the environment for years and add to land, air and water pollution.Initiative by Abhinav School:Today, plastic bags have become a significant cause of land pollution. The toxic chemicals produced by plastic contaminate the soil. This is hampering the growth of the plants. Since these are light and are carried by wind to different places, the agricultural land is also getting affected by them. They are deteriorating the soil quality making it less fertile. They damage the seeds sown in the ground and interfere with the growth of plants. Keeping all these things in mind, Abhinav came up with an innovative idea which is reflected in the pictures below. The students not only prepared the bags but also distributed them among the vendors and made them also realise how plastic is harmful. The students have been making these bags from last 6-7 years and been distributing them among the hawkers to reduce the usage of plastic. We are glad that even PMC has banned the usage of plastic bags.
